In memory of John
We are deeply saddened by the passing of someone very close to our hearts and a loyal supporter of our charity.
John Matthews, dad to one of charity founders Jacky and grandad to our trustee Angelo, sadly passed away at the age of 95.
He was loved and cherished by all his family and friends and is sorely missed. John was an active supporter of Care for Kids and he always proudly supported Jacky and Angelo's many charitable endeavours over the years.
Last year, John took on an amazing challenge of his own - setting a new British indoor rowing record at his local gym! He completed a 5000m indoor row in just 34 minutes and 25 seconds, becoming the fastest rower in his age group (95-99yrs) in the Concept 2 rowing records.
This personal challenge was not just about breaking records; it was about making a difference to the lives of children facing life-threatening illnesses. John's row raised over £1,500 in sponsorship for our charity.
A collection was made at his funeral, and thanks to the generosity of John's family and friends, we have received a donation of £804.50. We know that John would have been very pleased that Care for Kids, and local families just like his own, will benefit in his name.
We send our love to all those who knew and loved John and thank all those who have supported our charity in his memory.
