Care for Kids North Devon was formed as the result of the experiences of four of our trustees who have worked within children’s medical care in North Devon or experienced long-term medical care for a child over many years. Our trustees identified a need for support for families who, due to our rural North Devon location, are receiving medical care in the specialist children’s hospitals of Bristol and beyond.
Our trustees
Jacky Massos
Founder member, Trustee Charity Manager/Accounts
Jacky had her second son, Jason, diagnosed with Leukemia when he was four. Jacky has experienced all the anxieties of having a sick child. She spent a year with Jason in Bristol Children’s Hospital before being allowed home under the care of the North Devon District Hospital children’s ward. Her experience of this time left her understanding the financial concerns of many families with a very sick child and also left her determined to assist the children’s ward with the extras that make lengths of time spent on the ward a little more bearable, and even fun, for both patients and their families.
Fran Greenaway
Founder member, Trustee and Chair
Fran is an extremely experienced Play Specialist, who has worked on the Caroline Thorpe Children’s Ward at North Devon District Hospital for over 20 years. Fran is able to determine how and where money could be spent on the ward to assist patients and their parents and siblings who face lengthy stays on the Ward.
Jenny Birch
Founder member, Trustee
Jenny is a very special lady who has over 30 years of experience caring for very poorly children in North Devon, particularly those with a cancer. Jenny has seen how families struggle when adjusting to life with a very sick child. All cancer and acute patients are assessed, diagnosed and their treatment initially managed at the specialist Children’s Hospitals of Bristol, Exeter and beyond. This means the child and a parent must live away from home, incurring travel costs, subsistence costs and possible loss of earnings. Jenny has the experience to know exactly where the money is needed. She identified and highlighted the financial concerns of many North Devon families in this crisis situation.
Angelo Massos
Trustee
Angelo has experienced having his brother, Jason, sick when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Angelo wants to create a sustainable future for the charity to grow and support families across North Devon.
Sarah Bone
Trustee
Sarah joined the team as a trustee in 2023. As a registered nurse working on Caroline Thorpe children’s ward, Sarah is well placed to identify families most in need of our help. She can also support our projects on the ward.
